When a student is hospitalized for mental health reasons, family members are frequently concerned about their student’s well-being and the impact of mental health treatment needs on student status. We are committed to helping students make the best decision for their health, and, whenever possible, continue with their coursework. We have a variety of services available to assist with their recovery.
When students present to a hospital with mental health emergencies, there are three teams involved in their follow-up care: Student Case Management & Referral Coordination, The Student Consultation Team, and the iTEAM.
-
Student Case Management & Referral Coordination
This office supports students experiencing the effects of a crisis, adverse incident, or disruptive behavior. We focus on minimizing the negative impact on the student, faculty and staff, and other students – balancing the needs of the individual with those of Colorado State University and the community. In the height of a crisis situation, meeting with a Student Case Manager may provide assessment, referrals, and appropriate follow up. We help find the best approach to support the student in the immediate situation and provide referral for ongoing care.
-
The Student Consultation Team
The Student Consultation Team (SCT) is dedicated to improving community through a proactive, objective, supportive, and collaborative approach to the prevention, identification, assessment, intervention, management, and coordinated response of student situations that may pose a threat to the safety and well-being of individuals and the campus community. The Office of Support & Safety Assessment chairs the SCT and administers communications from the SCT regarding requirements and support.
-
CSU Health Network’s iTEAM (Intensive Treatment, Education, Assessment and Management)
A mental health treatment team for students who have been evaluated or treated at a hospital for a mental health emergency.
