About Health Education & Prevention Services

The Health Education and Prevention Services (HEPS) department is central to supporting the health and well-being of the CSU campus community. The prevention-based department works from a foundational understanding and application of the public health model of prevention, as well as diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice and its impact on individual and population health.

Health Education and Prevention Services oversees the National College Health Assessment biannual process to systematically collect, analyze and disseminate CSU student health data to inform efforts and advocate for student health and support resources across campus. Efforts are also informed by the use of best practices, literature reviews, the latest research and other student health and behavior data, in collaboration with prevention partners and key stakeholders. In partnership, campus health priorities are identified, and the department delivers evidence-based, inclusive initiatives and programs that empower students to achieve academic and personal success during their college years and beyond. This involves fostering awareness, skill-building, resourcing and addressing the environmental context in which health behavior decisions are made to create a healthy learning community.
