AlcoholEdu Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Requirements

If you are a new incoming student (transfer, international, or first year) under the age of 23* you are required to take the program.  Success of the program is based upon population-level prevention, a concept that recognizes that students’ choices likely impact those of their peers. Providing new students with a consistent message about alcohol and consent can encourage thoughtful conversations, inspire a shift in behaviors, and highlight a campus culture that values healthy choices.

*New undergraduate students who turn 23 years old within 35 days of the start of the semester must still complete AlcoholEdu.

The only students who are exempt from taking the AlcoholEdu course are:

  • Students 23* years of age and older
  • Distance learners (not physically present on CSU’s campus)
  • Second bachelor’s degree students
  • Graduate students

*New undergraduate students who turn 23 years old within 35 days of the start of the semester must still complete AlcoholEdu.

***Please note that CSU does not accept course completions from previous institutions.***

If you fit one of the exemption criteria, and received communication about completing the course, please e-mail alcoholedu@colostate.edu.

AlcoholEdu has two parts. Part one takes approximately 1.5-2 hours to complete, and it is recommended that you engage in it during multiple settings. AlcoholEdu starts with a survey and ends with an exam. It is required that you complete Part 1 of the course, and pass the final exam with at least an 70%. An incomplete program will result in a registration hold until the program is completed. The deadline for the program is the first day of classes. You will receive an e-mail invite for Part 2 of the course six weeks after completing Part 1.

The first day of classes of your entry term (i.e. Fall, Spring). If it is not completed by the deadline, registration hold(s) will be placed on your account.  Once Part 1 of the course is completed, your hold will be removed.

A score of 80% or higher is required to pass Part 1 of AlcoholEdu. Should you not pass, you will be required to re-take the course exam until an 80% is achieved. Completing AlcoholEdu requires passing the exam.

Holds are automatically removed 24 hours after course completion. If you feel there is a hold on your account in error, please e-mail alcoholedu@colostate.edu for assistance.

You cannot access Part 2 until approximately six weeks after you complete Part 1.  Part 2 of the program is NOT tied to your registration, so if you complete Part 1, but not Part 2, you will NOT have a registration hold placed on your account.

AlcoholEdu, Sexual Assault Prevention, and Canvas Financial Wellness will be available 35 days prior to the beginning of the semester.  Students will also receive an email to their CSU email address alerting them the programs are open, with instructions on how to complete each program.
