About me

I grew up on a farm in Iowa and spent a lot of time showing and judging livestock. When choosing my career, I decided to pursue human medicine instead of veterinary medicine because I have a strong self-preservation instinct which makes me afraid of horses, bulls, and other large animals. I loved Pediatrics and completed a fellowship in Adolescent Medicine, which led me to a career in college health.  I’ve been working at the CSU Health Network since 1990, and I’ve been the Director of Medical Clinical Services since 2015. Clinical areas of special interest for me include Travel Medicine, Public Health and Communicable Disease, and care for students with Eating Disorders.  In my spare time, you might find me reading, gardening, camping, doing a variety of crafts, or advocating for Single-Payer Universal Healthcare (Improved Medicare for All).  My husband and I volunteer regularly with the Fort Collins Municipal Railway, and we wrote and published a children’s book, Birney, the Streetcar, to benefit the preservation of the historical trolley car. We also enjoy spending time with our two adult daughters, son-in-law, and orange tabby grandcat.
