Help Compass

HelpCompass is an essential crisis navigation tool that helps students, faculty, and staff connect to the right help in moments of need. We all encounter hurdles in life. In those moments of challenge, finding the right support is critical. To help our students, staff, and faculty connect easier, we are proud to announce the launch of HelpCompass.

Accessible any time at helpcompass.colostate.edu, and 100% anonymous, this tool matches our Ram community to a concise list of relevant services and resources in just a few clicks. The process involves just answering a few questions to receive a list of the most relevant crisis support for yourself or someone else. You can also access HelpCompass through the Crisis Button in YOU@CSU.

Life gets hard. Finding help should be easy.

  • Getting back on track starts with reaching out. Life happens. Find the support you need to get where you want to be with HelpCompass.
  • Explore your options. No strings attached. HelpCompass is 100% anonymous, so you can explore support options available and take action when ready. No personal information is ever collected or stored. There is no login, so a person’s use cannot nor will not be tied to their identity.
  • Help yourself like you would help a friend. People can be pretty hard on themselves. Show yourself compassion when things get tough using HelpCompass to help navigate support options. This tool centers resources for students, faculty, or staff members. It supports searching for resources for oneself or someone else.
  • You’re not alone. Your university is here for you. No one can figure it out all alone. Plug into the right supports for whatever challenges you are facing.
  • When you’re stuck, find the right next step with HelpCompass. You don’t have to solve it all today—just take the next step to connect. In a few clicks, you’ll be given a concise list of relevant resources.
  • Is for everyone on campus.HelpCompass currently serves as the Crisis Button on YOU@CSU for both students and employees. If you haven’t visited YOU@CSU for a while, take a look! There is a wealth of information waiting for you.
  • The brief collection of resources in HelpCompass have been carefully selected and vetted by several campus partners. Links and information will be updated and maintained 2x per year by CSU Health Network staff.
  • Grit Digital Health, the creators of YOU@CSU, founded by alum Joe Conrad, has gifted the University use of HelpCompass in addition to YOU@CSU for students and employees and Nod – the app to address loneliness.

If you have questions or would like to request changes/edits to any of the resources on HelpCompass, please contact Janelle Patrias, the Manager of Mental Health Initiatives at the CSU Health Network, at janelle.patrias@colostate.edu

Additional Relevant Information

CSU Launched YOU@CSU in Feb 2016. Originally the YOU@CSU portal was developed for students to explore their strengths and areas for growth across three domains:

THRIVE = Physical / Mental Health

SUCCEED = Academics / Career

MATTER = Purpose / Community / Social

A Staff/Faculty version of YOU@CSU was successfully launched in Fall 2022. At this same time, the HelpCompass tool functioned in the background as the crisis button on both the student and staff/faculty versions.

CSU is fortunate to have a special partnership with Grit Digital Health, a company created by CSU alum, Joe Conrad.  CSU has been a key development partner in the YOU@College platform that is now used at over 180 Colleges and Universities. The CSU Health Network has been a test site and helped facilitate research agreements between CSU and Grit Digital Health, which continue to this day. There are many stakeholders contributing to the success of these efforts.

CSU is able to use both YOU@CSU portals and HelpCompass at no cost due to this partnership. In return for no licensing fees, we provide Grit Digital Health a useful testing group with high adoption among our students and soon our staff and faculty. In reciprocity, CSU works hard to promote and launch each new tool in order to provide the best possible testing environments for Grit.
