Brief Individual Counseling

CSU Health Network Mental Health Services operates under a brief therapy model where issues are addressed over a few sessions and focus on solutions rather than problems.  We utilize this model in order to maximize our resources in meeting student mental health needs. These brief, solution-focused sessions help you navigate:

  • Recent anxiety, stress, or depression
  • Interpersonal/Relationship/Family Concerns
  • Academic concerns
  • Self-esteem concerns
  • Eating concerns
  • Coping with a traumatic event
Students will need an internal referral in order to access brief individual counseling.

To determine if brief individual counseling will meet your needs, the first step is to meet with a counselor during drop-in hours.

  • Mondays: 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • Tuesdays: 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • Wednesdays: 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • Thursdays: 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • Fridays: 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

You will notice that we ask questions about identities and multicultural factors at various points in your treatment.  These factors may be important to effectively meet your needs.  We recognize that discussing identities may be difficult and we invite you to share about these as you are comfortable.  This is in alignment with our values, the CSU Principles of Community, and the ethical principles we follow as professionals.

Brief individual counseling will require active participation by you, which often includes doing work in between sessions and utilizing recommendations provided to you.  We encourage you to read about the office policies, complete paperwork, and understand your responsibilities as a client.
